NEWS!

So since about Friday I've been having these really sharp pains in my left kidney.  At first, I thought it was nothing, just something I ate, but the pains didn't go away for a few days.  On Monday, I went to work, and it hurt to walk.  So I decided I had to bite it and take Tuesday off, and get checked out.

My normal doctor has Tuesday's off, so I saw the Physician's Assistant.  She did some tests and an exam, and she was able to rule out a bladder/kidney infection and musculo-skeletal problems.  She said it was either a tiny kidney stone or baby using my kidney as a punching bag.  So she wanted to schedule a renal ultrasound just to be safe.

That ultrasound was this morning.  It wasn't intended for me to see or sex the baby, but our tech was so awesome that she spent a good 15 minutes just following the baby swimming laps in my stomach.  The kid was literally doing flips and flops and turning and twisting the whole time she was in there!  We did get a few good looks, we got to see his face, and he was opening and closing his mouth.  We got to see "the goods," so to speak, or what we are all pretty convinced are "the goods," meaning that we are more than likely having a BOY!!!!  She didn't want to say 100% because while she's an ultrasound tech she's NOT my doctor, and we have our actual ultrasound next week, but she said she was about 90% sure that it was a twig and berries that we saw.  I saw it, and so did Johnny, before she said anything, and she doesn't think it's part of the umbilical cord!!!!

I WAS RIGHT!

I didn't really care if it was a boy or girl, I just wanted to be RIGHT about it! And I was!!! So here we have a picture of Maxwell John Voruz's feetsies!!  He was moving too much to get a good picture of anything else, but hopefully next week we'll get something.  This is still pretty darn cute, though!!!

Oh, and P.S. my kidneys turned out to be fine.  Max is just resting his head up against it a lot, and kicking.  Normal thing during pregnancy, especially for us short people!!

Baby Update!!

I FELT MY BABY  MOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER YESTERDAY!!

At first I wasn't quite sure what was going on.  I was sitting at my desk during my  morning plan time, and all of a sudden, it felt like something was rubbing on or tickling the inside of my uterus, about an inch under my belly button.  I knew it wasn't gas, I'd felt that before, and I'm all too familiar with that.  I had a feeling it was baby doing a little flutter kick, but to be sure, I booted up google to see at what point in a pregnancy the fetus can be felt.  So I started searching, and I can say without a doubt that it was little Maxilly getting comfortable.  It was the greatest sensation in the world.  S/he was pretty active yesterday, but I haven't really felt anything today, except some stretching.  I'm at 17 weeks, almost 18, and we have another doctor's appointment tomorrow after work.  I was hoping to find out if it was a Max or a Lilly, but I have to wait a few more weeks :(  September 30th should be that day!! Let's hope so anyway.

So I'm almost to the halfway point!  This is very exciting to me.  As wonderful as pregnancy has been, I'm excited for little baby Voruz to get here.  I'm lucky in that I haven't gained a ton of weight in my face or anywhere else on my body.  The weight I've gained is most definitely baby. My stomach is hard, and I'm pretty sure if it was fat it would be mushy.  But it's pretty hard under there.  Unfortunately, I look a lot further along than 17 weeks, because I have no torso.  I'm short, so I have no where to go but out!  My students are very excited about my pregnancy, and I've only known them for 3 weeks.  So that's kind of fun in class, when they ask me about it.

So all in all things are going well.  I'm getting tired a little easier again, which is really frustrating.  I know that I should get my sleep now cause I won't get much in a few months, but I've got things to do!  I don't have time to go to sleep at 7:30 every night (although I WISH I did! How awesome would that be??).  I'll be sure to keep you all updated, if I get any news tomorrow I'll be sure to post again, otherwise I'll post when something else happens!!

This morning, we went to the doctor and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat!

We heard it with her first, and it was a very strong 159 bpm.  I didn't think it would affect me like it did, I had tears in my eyes.  There's really a baby in there!  I'm really going to be having a baby in 6 months!!!  Johnny's parents and sister were in town, so we brought them into the room and they got to hear it as well.  It's their first grandchild/nephew/niece so it was really awesome for them, too.  By then it was fluctuating between 155 and 158, but still a very strong loud heartbeat.  It's the most amazing sound in the world.

I'm in my 13th week, which means in a few days I'll be officially into my 2nd trimester.  I went through all of my first with no sickness at all, just some headaches.  I'm through the scary part of it and now baby is fully developed, he just needs to grow!  AND TRUST ME HE'S DOING SO.  I can feel my body stretching in ways that only a woman would understand.

It was really nice to have Johnny's family here this week.  We got the nursery almost totally put together.  I wanted to do it early to keep from getting overwhelmed.  By the time I get to my nesting phase, I'll be amidst 2 grad classes and working full time, so I won't have time to think about it.  Plus, I really don't want Johnny to feel overwhelmed with everything that's going on.  It looks amazing.  We ordered a really cute yellow glider chair and a really awesome rug, and those are both on their way.  Then we just have a few minor touches, and the addition of the monsters, and the room will be complete!

If you're interested, you can see the pictures of the room here.  That's getting updated with every addition, though, so keep checking back!

School starts next week.  A week from today actually.  Booooo.  No more naps.   It's going to be a big adjustment.  Thank goodness I got so many maternity clothes, because the clothes I had worn last year aren't fitting too well!  Once school starts again I think I am going to be working out in the morning.  Nothing too rigorous, just maybe 30 min on the treadmill to get my blood flowing for the day.  We'll see how it goes.  I'll also be walking ALL DAY LONG behind a cart, which is nothing new, but doing so pregnant might end up being a lot more work than before :)

Pregnancy update!

We went to the hospital this afternoon because our good friends Matt and Jaci finally had their baby boy  last night at 10:04pm.  Ian Matthew weighed in at 7 lb. 8 oz.  When we got to see him today, he was PERFECT.  So little, totally cute.  I held him right away, and Johnny was just flabberghasted.  He hasn't had a whole lot of experience around newborns, and he kept thinking that we were going to break him.  I asked if he wanted to hold him, and he was terrified.  So he did it sitting down.  It was cute in a lot of ways, but I'm going to have to whip that boy into shape over the next 6 months!  Luckily, we have another really good friend due any day now, so between those two babies he'll get some practice in!

In other news, things are good with the pregnancy.  I'm still convinced it's a boy in there.  He's making me crave things like cheese and beer.  Now for those of you who don't know me all that well, I don't even like beer.  Really hate it actually.  But what I wouldn't give for a Corona with a lime right now.  GOD that sounds good.  And I've been eating cheese at every meal, and for a lot of snacks.  Definitely a Wisconsin kid in there!  I'm about 11 1/2 weeks through now, so that means that I'm almost out of the woods for a miscarriage.  Still birth is still a possibility after 12 weeks, but unlikely if I stay healthy.  I was never really concerned about miscarriage, though, for many reasons.  Glad to know it didn't happen though!!

I may not be getting sick, but being pregnant is NOT good for my skin.  I've had more zits in the past 12 weeks than I've had my entire life combined.  And they are BAD ones.  We're talking volcanoes popping up on my forehead every day.  I had one yesterday that had 3 whiteheads! I kid you not.  It was brutal.  Whoever came up with that whole "pregnancy glow" thing can kiss my ass.

On the upside, I can eat almost anything I want and I'm not gaining weight.  That's not entirely right, I still don't eat a lot.  But we had homemade rice krispie treats (with REAL BUTTER and COCONUT) last week and donuts at least twice while Erik and Amethyst were here, and I'm the same weight I was 3 weeks ago.  I did gain a lot at first, well not a lot, but like 5 pounds, and I should start gaining again now that the baby's growing at a ridiculously fast rate.  Right now, he's about the size of a large lime (2 inches diameter or so) and he'll triple in size over the next 3 weeks.  My belly isn't really protruding much right now, but it will.  I look a lot bigger after I eat, because my stomach HAS to stretch OUT instead of DOWN now.  So that's kind of uncomfortable.  Now it just kinda looks like I ate too many donuts.  Which I very well could have!

I go to the doctor again on August 4th and we'll get to hear the baby's heartbeat.  Johnny's parents and sister will be in town, so I'm going to offer up the opportunity to come and hear it with us.  Of course they won't be in there for the actual exam, but it's their first grandchild/niece/nephew so I think it'd be cool for them.
